Where is the house located?

Onu Bay Holiday House is less than a 10 minute drive from the airport.  Take a left out of the airport, you will pass the golf course on your left and a few minutes later you will see the Sunset Resort sign on your right.  Turn into that road and you will see Onu Bay Holiday House in front and to your left.

 

What is the currency in Rarotonga?

The currency used in Rarotonga is the New Zealand Dollar (NZD).  The ANZ and Bank of South Pacific in Avarua are open Monday to Friday, 9am to 3pm.  Most credit cards are accepted throughout Rarotonga by most shops and restaurants.  Both banks have ATM machines that are connected to other banks internationally.

 

What is the local language?

The local language is Cook Island Maori.  English is widely spoken and understood. 

 

About Rarotonga

It is 32km in circumference and is surrounded by a sparkling blue lagoon.  It takes about 50 minutes to drive around the outer road.  The island has enticingly warm temperatures and a relaxed ambience.  The “dry” season which is a few degrees cooler with less rainfall usually takes place between March and September.

 

Can I cook at the house or should I eat out?

If you want to stock up and cook for yourself the Avarua Township, about 15 minutes drive away, has two large supermarkets and shops selling meat, fish and other produce.  If you prefer to dine out there are a number of restaurants within walking distance from Onu Bay and further options within 10 minutes if you drive.

 

Do I need to tip in Rarotonga?

It is not customary or expected to tip in the Cook Islands.  However, if you feel that you have received great service, please feel free to tip accordingly.  Your tip will be shared between all staff.
